In January Wendy Birch will be holding a YKC Advanced Class Pre Crufts Training Day for more experienced YKC members, currently competing in Obedience.
The obedience training day will take place on Sunday 20th January 2019 and is open to all YKC members aged 6-24 years. The January training will be ideal for those members who are competing in Obedience and will aim to improve their skills. This will be a more advanced class, where Wendy will be demonstrating and tutoring members on how they can develop their dogs’ training.
As it is timed for just before Crufts, this will be an excellent opportunity to develop a “Pre-Crufts Training Programme” and will aim to give course participants action points to work on between now and their big day at Crufts 2019! Places are limited so make sure you book early.
Training for the day will cost £30 (10 spaces available)
The training will be held indoors, in a village hall. Rolls of non-slip floor covering will provide a good working surface. Warm clothes may be needed in case of cold weather but wear layers because the heating in the hall will soon make everyone cosy!
Please note that lunch will not be provided so you will need to bring food/drinks with you to this event. There will be tea, coffee, hot chocolate and squash provided free of charge and available all day to course participants and their accompanying parents/guardians.
(If the member is under 18 years of age then one accompanying parent/guardian must also attend at no charge.)
9:00 – Registration and Introduction
Wendy will be tailoring her course to suit the needs and abilities of the members attending. She will assess where members are confident and where things can be improved and developed to help each member get the most from their dog. There will be individual activities as well as small group and whole group activities.
Please bring a pen and notebook to note down action points for training and development, especially valuable for individual pointers and training tasks.
Wendy will demonstrate a wide variety of activities and training methods using her Championship C Qualified Border Collie dog. She will also be happy to model methods with members’ dogs if they wish her to do so. Wendy will also provide pointers for continued development and ways forward, so that members can continue to develop their dogs’ training programmes into the new show season.
5.00 pm - Programme End
(Exact timings may alter slightly)
The training day will be hosted and led by Wendy Birch. Wendy has been competing in Obedience for over 40 years – almost all her life.
Wendy has competed in the Crufts Obedience Championships twice with her Champion Working Sheepdog ‘Della’ and was also selected to work in the Crufts Inter Regional Obedience Competition twice. Wendy won the C Class at the National Obedience Class Finals at Stoneleigh in 2015. She has trained three of her dogs to ‘Ticket Level’, the latest being ‘Joey’, who qualified for Championship C in 2018 at just three years of age. Wendy is a Championship C qualified Obedience judge and regularly judges at all levels at shows in the UK.
She has also travelled to Holland to judge in UK style Obedience Competitions there and in Belgium. She is also the Manager of the South East & East Anglia Inter Regional Obedience Team at Crufts. Wendy has 30 years’ experience of teaching and working with children as a Primary School Teacher. She left teaching in July 2018 to focus on private individual pupil tuition, which has freed up her time to pursue her passion of training her own dogs and training other people working with their dogs.
