Opportunities

The YKC invest heavily in ensuring that our members have the support that they need to help them to ensure their future in dog related activity.  Previously the Young Kennel Club has offered educational opportunities at its head office in London.

Careers with Dogs Day

For members aged between 14 and 24 years of age there is the chance to attend a ‘Careers with Dogs Day’.  The YKC members are the future of the world of dogs. They give up so much of their time to help out at events and put so much energy into dogs that we want to make sure they have all the knowledge available to them to help ensure their future in dogs.  The event aims to give YKC members the opportunity to attend talks and speak with professionals in a variety of canine fields.

The day usually ties in with the school half term, ensuring that as many members as possible can attend. The careers day will be hosted by the management team and will be held in the Kennel Club boardroom. Speakers will come from a variety of backgrounds and will aim to educate YKC members on all dog related jobs.  Previous speakers have been involved with:

  • Dog Photography
  • Grooming
  • Charitable Organisations (Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and Blue Cross)
  • Animal Shelters (Battersea Cats and Dogs Home)
  • Veterinary Surgeons and Nurses

Details will be issued in Fetch magazine and on the website when a date for the next day has been confirmed

Work Experience

We are offering work experience summer placements for YKC members. Placements are unpaid and can last anything from a few days to four weeks. The aim of the Kennel Club work experience scheme is to offer YKC members the opportunity to experience an office environment, and gain basic administration skills. During your placement, you will also learn more about what the Kennel Club does and be able to make some good contacts for the future.
