Jubilee Dogstable Course

What is Dogstable?

The dogstable competition was such as success at Discover Dogs 2009 that we will continue it throughout the year at our activity weekends, with a grand final at dfs Crufts 2011.  The course is based on a rally and includes Agility and basic Obedience– and to make it even more special we are asking members taking part to dress up as their favourite SUPERHERO.

The competition has now been incorporated into the YKC programme to celebrate our Silver Jubilee year and is designed as a fun competition. As such there are no rules and regulations, however we have drawn up some guidelines to help you to understand what is expected which can be found on our website.

What's involved?

Dogstable is a competition in which a handler directs a dog through an obstacle course which has a mixture of Agility and Obedience moves in a race for both time and accuracy.
The Agility course consists of a set of stations which include obstacles and commands laid out by the Judge with numbers indicating the order in which the dog must complete the obstacles.
The setting of a reasonable course time together with the careful design allows the dog and handler to show their skill at control and speed.
The aim of the Agility course is to obtain the fastest round with the least amount of faults

Can any dog take part?

Only dogs of eighteen (18) calendar months of age and over on the day of competition are eligible for entry into a YKC qualifying agility class.
Dogs entered must be registered at the Kennel Club in accordance with Kennel Club Regulations for Classification and Registration B. If your dog is a rescue or crossbreed, the Kennel Club has an Activity Register for dogs that do not qualify for the breed register

How do I go about Competing?

The YKC hosts Dogstable qualifiers at the Birmingham, Wales and Newark YKC Activity Weekends as well as Discover Dogs in London open to Young Kennel Club members only aged 6-24 years.
The three highest placed dog and handlers in each subdivision will be invited from each heat to compete in the Final at dfs Crufts.
Members are only permitted to handle one dog in Final at dfs Crufts. If a handler has qualified more than one dog they will have to choose which dog to run. The next placed dog and handler in the heat will then be offered the place.
Handlers are placed into the age group in accordance with their age on the first day of dfs Crufts.
