Discover Dogs 2009 gets bigger and better….
This year the show moved to the larger venue of Earls Court One which resulted in the Young Kennel Club having a much bigger area with a jam packed ring programme which introduced two fantastic new events, ‘Stop the Clock; Come Jump with Rufus’ and the ‘Silver Jubilee Dogstable Course’ – both of which proved to be hugely popular.
For Stop the Clock, we invited members of the audience to come and have a go at a simple jumping course in the YKC ring. We began by sending our mascot, Rufus, around the course to set a time and then the fantastic Pets As Therapy volunteers and their brilliant dogs helped the audience members to complete the course. This was a perfect opportunity for young people in the audience to actually have a go at a dog sport with a well trained and responsive dog and we were over the moon at the response.
The other new event was a special Silver Jubilee Dogstable Course which qualified some lucky members for the grand final at DFS Crufts 2010. The course was based on a rally and included agility obstacles and basic obedience moves – to make it even more special the members that took part dressed up as Superheroes to illustrate how fantastic they are. Congratulations to everyone who went to lots of effort with your costumes, you all looked fantastic!
