My name is Kate Nicholas but many of you may know me better as the human half of ”Kate & Gin”, the Canine freestyle duo that came 4th in the Final of Britain’s Got Talent 2008. I am 17 years old and Gin is 8.

I was nine years old when after many months of pleading with my Parents for a dog of my own, they finally gave in. It was so amazing to know that Gin a tiny bundle of fluff was my very own puppy but I knew also that she was my responsibility and I needed to love and care for her myself. Buying me a dog of my own was not a decision that my parents made lightly, I had proven to them that I was prepared to devote lots of time and energy in helping to care for our family’s other dogs and animals before I was allowed one of my very own.

My sister Laura and Mum Tina owned Welsh Terriers that they showed in Breed competitions and also Laura competed very successfully with them in Agility. It was attending these agility shows that first sparked my interest in dog sports and the passion of wanting a dog of my own to train. And so from April 2001 my little dog “Gin” and I started to build up our inseparable relationship.

I joined the Kennel Club Junior Organisation (KCJO) in 2001. For those of you not old enough to remember the KCJO was the former name of the YKC, it changed to the YKC in 2002. I have attended three YKC summer training camps and it was during these weeks that I was introduced to a wide variety of dog sports. Flyball became a firm favourite of Gin’s and we compete regularly. In Canine Freestyle we have worked our way up the ranks and now compete at Advanced level in adult competition. Over the years Gin has also competed in Agility, and dabbled her paws into working trials and obedience with me by her side.

Last September the duo became a trio with the addition of “Ice” a Border Collie puppy so now its “Kate and Gin with Ice”.

Keep revisiting the website to hear how we felt about our experiences through Britain’s Got Talent and beyond. Find out what we are up to now and what the future holds. We will try to cover lots of interesting doggy topics too.
