Blue went to his first puppy agility lesson and I was so pleased with him! Bearing in mind the only agility-linked training I’d done with him was lefts and rights and nose touches, I couldn’t believe how quickly he picked things up! He is in a class with his best friend Denby, (a sable Shetland Sheepdog owned by Amanda Rodgers) and 3 Jack Russell terriers who are complete beginners when it comes to agility. We started with doing some running between wings which he loved, I think he even surprised himself at how quickly he got to the other side of the sand school. We then moved onto the pipe tunnel which he wasn’t too sure about but once he realised what he was meant to do he was absolutely fine!
The second half hour was spent at the other end of the school on the agility equipment, as Blue is still quite young I wont be doing much on the contacts for a while yet. We just worked on the down plank on the dog walk to a nose touch and release. He loved this as nose touches are his favourite. I’d hoped to reward him mainly on his toy as I find this the easiest and quickest way of training but he can be quite temperamental with his toys at the moment! He’d much rather go and see what Denby or the terriers are doing so I will have to put lots of work into getting him tuned into his toy. Will keep you updated with how we get on!
