Many clubs and societies host Young Kennel Club classes throughout the year for members to try and qualify for Crufts. This section holds all of the information that secretaries and competition managers will require to successfully host a YKC class.
Whether you are interested in starting a dog activity or you are Secretary to a Club or Championship Show, or a Judge, this section will provide you with the information and guidance to ensure that you are able to enjoy all these fun activities with your dog.
If you are a member, please check when you enter a class which is being hosted by another club or society that it is listed as a Crufts qualifier in the Competing section. Classes not on the YKC qualifier list will not qualify members for Crufts
If you would like to hold a Young Kennel Club qualifying class for Crufts, please contact the YKC office or call 020 7518 1030 with the following information:
Your request will then go forward to the Young Kennel Club Management Team who will contact you by letter to inform you if your request has been successful.
What Happens Once I Have Been Accepted?
Once the YKC Management Team have agreed your club may hold a YKC Crufts qualifying class you will receive a confirmation form for you to fill out confirming the information that we hold regarding your club. These details will then be published on the YKC website for all members to view.
What Happens If I Am Not Accepted?
We are only able to hold a certain number of qualifiers throughout the year in order to contain the numbers in the finals at Crufts. If you haven’t been successful you are free to apply again the following year as there may well have been an opening. The Management Team's decision is based on the location of the qualifier and the number of qualifiers we currently hold for the activity.
What Do I Receive?
As the secretary (or main contact for the club) you will receive the correspondence from the YKC office which will include:
When Do I Return The Results?
We ask that you return the results to the YKC Office within two weeks of the class taking place in order for the YKC office to record the wins. All results are added to the website upon arrival so it is important for these to be returned as soon as possible. We will usually contact you within one month of the class taking place if we haven’t received the results.
If you experience any problems with YKC classes at your show please contact the YKC Office for guidance.
If you have been asked to judge a YKC class or competition, please familiarise yourself with our full rules and regulations.
All of our discipline rules & regulations can be downloaded from each activity section under the competing area of the website.
If you are looking for a Judge for your YKC classes you can contact the YKC Office for a list.
