Heelwork to Music is Obedience training with a twist! Your dog has to show his understanding and knowledge of training commands - but the great part is that your dog can show off his obedience skills within a dance routine with music, which has been created by you.
Heelwork to Music (HTM) is a competition designed for handlers to create routines, set to music, and then perform the routines with their dog. Your dog has to show off his training commands. Training your dog for Heelwork to Music means teaching a lot of different moves and poses and setting them to music.
Once you feel happy with your routine you can select a piece of music and adapt the sequence to suit the rhythm and pace of your routine. YKC member Ashleigh and Pudsey’s Britain’s Got Talent win have also inspired dog-lovers to hot-step it over to their local heelwork to music classes to see if they can be the next winning dancing duo.
There are two types of HTM class, Freestyle and Heelwork, the difference between the classes is that Heelwork focuses on a dog's ability to stay in variations of the heel position whilst the handler moves to music and Freestyle requires the dog to perform a variety of tricks and other obedience talents not necessarily in heel position.
