Preparing your dog to be able to compete successfully will take a little longer than the formal requirements. It is essential that your dog is fully socialised and that you have effective control at all times.
Dogs entered into junior handling or YKC (breed) stakes need to be on a Kennel Club register to compete. To learn how to show your dog for the Stakes classes, Junior Handling will give you a head start but you can also visit your local ringcraft club.
Young Kennel Club events are exclusively designed for members only and you can join the Young Kennel Club here. You can also begin training at the Young Kennel Club's dog training events before you begin competing.
If you would like some practice to learn the basics before competing, the Young Kennel Club trains club members in Junior Handling and ringcraft at our training events.
You can also collect points at shows to apply for a Handling or Showing Badge from the YKC. Contact the Young Kennel Club for a showing points book to keep a list of your points. You can collect points at championship, open, limited & companion shows (details can be found in the Points Book).
