Grooming Training & Competing

Even if you own a short haired breed, Grooming is an important part of dog care in the show ring as well as with pet dogs. Regular grooming is also a good way of checking the general health of your dog. If you have already been competing this year, you can click on the compete button below to see the year's YKC show results!

Getting Started

All dog breeds require some sort of daily grooming, whether short haired or long haired, and how much will depend on the breed. There are 5 categories of coat type, dependent on breed, and most dogs shed naturally twice a year (in spring and autumn).

Competing

Try and qualify for the Crufts final by competing in one of our qualifiers. The Young Kennel Club grooming is split into two different class types. You don't have to have lots of experience to compete in YKC grooming and can start with our basic groom through class.
