Training your dog for competitive Obedience is great fun, challenging and an interesting activity for you to enjoy together. Competitive Obedience shows take place all over the country throughout the year, and are open for competitors of all levels to enter. Handlers and their well trained dogs have their talent and skills tested and work as a team for competitive dog obedience. The first step to having an obedient dog is to take him to basic training, and there's no better place than the Good Citizen Dog Scheme classes.
When you have mastered some basic training commands, you could try some more advanced obedience training at a weekly obedience club, and at Young Kennel Club dog training events. Then, you can test your progress by entering into YKC Obedience competitions which take place across the country.
There are three levels of Young Kennel Club Obedience, starting with the Good Citizen Dog Scheme Pre-Beginners Stakes, through to an advanced class. The number and the difficulty of exercises performed will depend upon the level at which the dog and handler are competing.
